One can read:
This post was flagged by the community and is temporarily hidden.
The title [Solid State Relay simulation] carries a flag “This topic is unlisted; it will not be displayed in topic lists; and can only be accessed via a direct link”
What may be the cause (and reason) for this issue?
Dear maintainers, please restore the thread to normal view.
Individual posts sometis gt hidden if someone presses the “report” button (or similar).
This happens without any further human intervention (Which I deem bad practice).
Often you can “unhide” yor post by editint your original post and adding a few lines or so.
I had not seen the flag about “unlisted topics” before.
Yeah sure, I understand that.
But when a post gets hidden from a user whose been here for years and made hudredts of posts a single “report” seems to block it.
This happened to me too in another forum of the same kind. A moderator there got really annoyed with me for whatever reason and really suspected me of being a sockpuppet of a known troublemaker on their site and hid a thread I made over 1 day or so and locked me in basic user level (must still be the case I think, who knows) - so yeah, been on the receiving end of this as well and haven’t been dealt as friendly.
The system doesn’t expect a new member being that sophisticated and flags/hides it as the chance this being a spam bot is very high… dumb design? Yeah, a little, but as you can see just 2 days earlier @davidsrsb rejected a post by a spammer after the system flagged it.
You win some, you loose some
I think that only flags it for moderators, but doesn’t hide it from public view unless several members flag it, which is the system trusting it’s members to flag something that they don’t want to see.
As for modifying the thread or single posts… there is a spanner to the right (if you are elevated high enough, no idea what seasoned veterans can see vs moderators right now) of a thread and also under posts.
Depending on what you can do it got all sorts of options…
To unhide the post by the op the spanner underneath the post needed to be used.
But I can’t hide a post for example like that, there was an unhide option when I looked at it.
Seems flag/report/system related and not specifically possible even for moderators (or I don’t know where to look )
I’m new but I’d like to think I’m a ‘normal’ user. The power to flag spam, to me, means only that a moderator is notified. I would assume that ‘only’ a moderator could remove or hide a thread.
I’ve got admin rights and I can’t hide a post or the top post via the spanner… that’s why I wrote this must be flagging/system related.
Moderators can de-list a topic from public view (vanishes for normal users) or delete a post within a topic (which can then be un-deleted) so works similar to hiding, but it looks different than a hidden post that has been brought into that state by flags/system.
Just my 2 cents - I posted a lot in the past and pretty much am a backup/day-to-day admin for Chris/KiCAD only - no real in-depth info about how the forums work besides what I read in the help pages years ago when I was new to this forum
At my user trust level, it appears that the Flag “It’s Spam” will will hide the post with my single click. I have not clicked the other Flags often enough to know exactly what happens in the other scenarios. However, I have clicked some of the other flags to find that later the post has become hidden, and is reported as “flagged by the community”; likely meaning some number of others also saw an issue with the post.
Did someone change the settings? I can no longer hide obvious spam by use of flags. I think this is a very bad idea! It is better to loose some legitimate posts over being easy for spammers. (If spammers start to get successful they will start to use the forum a lot more.)
Experimenting a bit with those shortcut keys. With ‘j’ and ‘k’ you can select a post (an orange line appears in the left margin), and then pressing ‘!’ pops up the “Flag Post” menu. It’s a bit vim like.
Oops
I do see not as many Icons as you.
I think I have reported one or 2 posts a long time ago myself, but I can’t remember with which Icon I did that. It seems to be missing though. (I can only edit my own post, not yours).
