CvPCB does not see footprints

Hi
I’m using BZR6132 on Win10.
I use a custom footprint file that is saved locally; in the library preferences I’ve added it and deleted all the others.
When I invoke CvPCB from EEShema it displays my file correctly in the left hand pane. The symbols are in the centre pane and my footprints in the right hand pane.
The first part (a buzzer) I can associate the footprint with it.
However, there are a number of resistors (annotated Rx) and capacitors (Cx) that, when I click on them to associate the footprint, the footprints are no longer displayed. Clicking other parts (eg PicAxe), redisplays the list of footprints.
Reading the netlist in PCBnew I get an error message that there is no footprint defined.
Why is the footprint list not displaying for the resistors and capacitors but it is for all other components?

Yes ,clicking on some components eg the buzzer shows all my footprints including the resistor and capacitor footprints.

Figured it out.
It seems I’ve used an old version to create some of the schematic.
On restart, the program has “rescued” these parts, specifically the resistors and capacitors. Not understanding this, my backup program overwrote the file and I “lost” these parts.

I have a similar Problem.

I have no idea how I could fix this problem, but CvPCB does nothing at the moment. It shows the linked libraries and the component instances, but there are no specific footprint modules loaded, the right column is empty.

In the project window, click on Einstellungen and there on Configure Paths (warum ist das Untermenue selber nicht eingedeutscht btw?)…
List here what it says there for all 3 paths please.

For me it opens a window and asks where I want to save it (Firefox).
Maybe your KiCAD isn’t allowed through the firewall or something?

I can download the file just as you can, but I don’t think that the firewall is the problem. I read in another post that KiCad probably wouldn’t be able to connect to github, if the local network makes use of a proxy to connect to the internet, which is indeed the case since I would use it at work. But I can’t check it, can I?

I am also getting the errors seen above. I will post below. I have all of the directories configured as suggested above. I can open CVPCB several times and different libraries will seem to load and others do not. It changes every load.

Using BZR6197 on Win 7.

I am now at the point even with RC1 of not being able to use the app past creating a schematic. CVPCB does not consistently load libraries and never loads them all. My project is now at a standstill.

I am new to this program. I had no trouble till a couple of days ago. I have downloaded the libraries to my drive through the footprint editor but have not been successful in pointing to them. Can you point me in the right direction on how to do this?

To add to @Ivan_Ryger’s tip, I noticed that some of the footprint repository names have changed/consolidated, etc.

Instead of copy/pasting the fp-lib-table from the post, it might be wise to just remove all the Github-based footprint rows and have kicad rebuild using the “Add by wizard” functionality.

kicad will look at the github repository and enumerate the footprint libs.

Stinks that they relocated some of the footprints though, not super-good for backwards compatibility on existing designs using the github repo names.

I had the same problem as the OP and your reply solved my problem. It would be nice if the devs put a notification after/instead of this dialog so it would be straightforward for the users.

I just hit this issue too after upgrade to 4.0.1. As pgvoorhees suggests, deleting all the github footprints and then reloading them using the Append With Wizard fixed it for me.

To spell it out for noobs like me:

In cvpcb, select Preferences => Footprint Libraries. Highlight all the github libraries and right-click => cut.
Close cvpcb and reopen it (probably not necessary but I did it anyway).
Open the Footprint Libraries again and click Append with Wizard
Select Github repository and Save a local copy to:
Browse to a folder you can write to (unfortunately, the Windows installer writes all KiCad files to c:\program files\Kicad by default which can cause file access permissions issues). I created a footprints folder under my local Projects folder).
Click Next, click Select all, click Next
Cvpcb will validate all the libraries and list them.
Click Next
Select To global library configuration … (assuming you want the loaded libraries to be visible to all future projects)
And finally click Finish. cvpcb will download a copy of all the libraries into the selected directory.

I tried doing it agene and agene and it did not work.
I am still getting the Err above.
I am using KiCad now for my first gob witch I just started.
I must get this to work!

Worked for me - Oct 2016 except they must have renamed cvpcb to pcbnew - kicad 4.0.4-stable

cvpcb is a sub-program between pcbnew and eeschema, you can view, control and define footprint associations for symbols with it in the .sch file afaik. This information will then be used on importing the netlist, as pcbnew works with the nets and footprints for helping you with creating the layout.
