I just discovered KiCad and I’m wondering why I cannot find any builds for v5.0 RCx. Did they get pulled for some reason?
Aack, nevermind! I was thrown by the version numbering in the filenames of the latest builds. It says, “r10407.blah-blah…”, but it’s really v5.0.0 RC2. Sorry for the false alarm.
No, not quite. It’s actually a snap-shot of the current state of development, leading up to v5.0.0 RC2.
Read through the thread " Does it make sense to start to learn with KiCad 5 ", and the last (approx) dozen posts in the thread " When will Kicad 5 be available? ".

If you download a nightly right now, then you get one that is leading up to rc3 (or maybe even the final stable release.) RC2 was tagged a bit more than a week ago: https://lists.launchpad.net/kicad-developers/msg35833.html
It will take some time till packages for different operating systems will be available. It seems this time debian is the first to get it: https://lists.launchpad.net/kicad-developers/msg35959.html
I am not sure if all operating systems will get a dedicated release for the RC2. (The main use i think is to give the devs milestones/deadlines. RC2 happens to be the string freeze.)
