Is there a way to put te mouse cursor into a “Placement Mode” that would allow user tu move component one after the other ?
Similar to the “Route Mode” where the user can keep routing until he ends the “Route Mode” .
Probably not exactly what you are looking for, but if you hover over a part and hit “m” without clicking the mouse, you can place it with left click. As long as you do it this way, you are in a “placement mode”, but you use m + left click instead left click twice.
Also . . . the selection Filter is your friend for doing this kind of work . . .
Yes, but you have to keep pressing a key … I was looking for something more like:
- Choose “Placement Mode”,
- Click a component and move it (it gets unselected when dropped),
- Click another one and move it (it gets unselected when dropped),
- And so on until you leave “Placement Mode”.
That would improve/speeds up placement operations when working on a PCB.
That of a course is mandatory when working with placement of components.
You are going to have to perform some sort of action to drop the footprint (not component), otherwise how will that footprint know when to disconnect from the cursor?
You must end up with select, move, and place the footprint; which is what you have now. I can’t see any improvement on the operation.
And if during movement you rotate your mouse footprint also rotates ?
And invert mouse to place the footprint on B.Cu?
This also works that way when using M. It only stays selected if you first selected it by pressing the LMB
While in “Placement Mode”, no need to hit a Hotkey. The mouse cursor knows you will click the footprint to take it and click again to place it … then waiting for you to click the next one and click to place it … and son on. Without the need to hit a Hotkey … just like when you route a trace, it stays in route mode until you end it.
If you press R, yes, it should.
This is how it works in Altium and PADS Pro and Expedition PCB.
I think Piotr made a joke here
???
When writing I was sure that it is not possible. Do you use mouse with gyroscope integrated?

I wish I had such a mouse … hahahaha
No, I meant if you press R, yes it will rotate.

No, he is dreaming of a mouse with gyroscope integrated.
looks like your about to launch your rocket into space
I rarely go to a menu or type a hotkey.
The left Gamer Pad is fully programmable, and has All I need depending on which Tool it detects.
You still need a hotkey to open and close Placement mode.
As @Mineotopia mentions: Kicad has hotkey + LMB to move which is two functions after locating the footprint.
Altium and Pads have a hotkey to open then two functions after locating the footprint followed by a further hotkey to close.
I really can’t see any productivity improvement, especially as most of a users time is spent accurately positioning a footprint and not just in the movement.
