LTSpice's .sub file doesn't work?

Hi,

I’m completely new to KiCad and have been playing around with KiCad 8.
I’ve learned a lot over the last few days and now i’m stuck…

I’d like to build a “simple” S1 lipo charging circuit and have found the LTC4054 IC to work well for this. Now, i was hoping to test my schema’s using simulation.

The LTC4054 page mentioned that the LTSpice simulater has it, but their simulation model db doesn’t have it.

Now, i’m on linux/debian, so i can’t really install LTSpice.
I did downloaded the LTSpice and extracted the MSI (rename it to .cab and you can open it with a cab extractor, or in windows just double click on it).
Within the MSI is a lib.zip which has the actual LTC4054-4.2.sub file, which, i guess, should be the SPICE model. It’s a binary file and not text. I’ve seen some mentions about being able to point KiCad directly to the .sub file, so i tried that anyway, but this makes KiCad crash.

I’m wondering if what i’m trying to do is just something that can’t work, or if there’s something specific i’m not doing right.
Thanks!

LTC models are within LTSPICE. You have to install it first to use the ADI’s libraries and models.

From Linux you can install LTSPICE using wine.

This is encrypted, LTSPICE only, and will not do in KiCad/ngspice.
