Kicad 6.0.10 Unable to run simulation on new schematic

Hi,

I have just installed kicad 6.0.10; have drawn a simple net using spice symbols; rules checker is ok ;annotated ok.

But when I click on inspect->simulator (not tools->simulator); I am unable to start a simulation; the button is not highlighted. In the sim window the simulator netlist is also empty.

I am new to kicad and simulation. What am I doing wrong? Must be something pretty basic.
