How to reopen a discussion?

Is it possible to add the following possibly helpful screenshot to elaborate on one of the answers here? (The discussion was closed before this feature went mainstream)

How do you reopen a discussion?

You don’t.

So this feature is irrelevant to the 2023 discussion regarding a question about 7.0.0.

There is no point in reopening a 2 year old discussion.

What you can do is start a new discussion titled “Modify multiple pads at once with 9.0.4” so when people search the forum for answers to questions will see that the new article supersedes the old discussion.

It sends me batty this is a trend amongst online forums.

Anyway, the good news is that when you link to an existing thread, that thread is updated with the back reference. Check out the thread you’re referring too - it now has a link to this thread. If you use a good thread title, the result is quite useful, and leaves a clear line in the sand too.

Yes, the question first came up in v7.0.1.

However, I am using v9.0.1 and had exactly the same issue. Despite improvements in software, the features we need are not just obvious and staring us in the face when we are new to the software and presented with multiple arrays of toolbars. Therefore the original thread is still useful. In particular, the mention of the new properties panel in v8 is a great answer to the still-relevant question.

Despite its wealth of information in its current form, the original thread is incomplete. It took me too long to find the option being discussed due to the lack of an annotated screenshot. It is therefore unfortunate that users who find the still-relevant old thread must rely on a grayed back-link in order to find the complete discussion on a topic. Having said that, I appreciate that a method to find follow-up discussion at least exists. (Thank you Heath_Raftery for drawing this to my attention for future topics that I might encounter on this site.)

The properties button really doesn’t help much with respect to the original question about changing multiple pads simultaneously.

A right mouse click on the footprint will open the select menu which shows, towards the bottom of the list, the three “Push / paste pad properties” section. These three functions are far more useful as a reply to the question; but again, these functions were not available in 7.0.0, so why bother posting there?

You are right that there are two possible workflows.

I personally find the properties panel to be more convenient, because I can type a number, and another and another, and all the pads are instantly updated as I type, which reveals obvious mistakes and visually confirms that I’m doing the sequence of changes that I intended, including qualities (such as spaces between pads and cross-alignment of various pads) that are only visually apparent when applied to all the pads. But it did initially take me some time to figure out how to open the panel, and that’s where we can make the learning process easier for subsequent users.
