How to double click on an object underneath another?

I learned that you can long press (click and hold down the mouse for a second) to pop up a menu to select one of the items under the cursor. How can I double click on the item though? In my case, once I select a rule area using the long-click method I need some way to double click it to open the rule area properties editor dialog. Any tips?

Thanks!

Select the item wanted from the list showing, using the numbers on the keyboard, while still holding the mouse button down.
The symbol you chose will now be highlighted and a further double click will open its properties, or, if you have the properties panel open on the left, the symbol will show in that panel without the double click.

Thank you!! Now, what if I have two overlapping text items (or any two of the same item type) and I want to double click one?

I’ve seen that menu before but I always tried to click on a item in the list. I never could get that to work. I never thought to use the keyboard and hit a number. Almost makes me want to open a project and play with this new info.

Aha! That’s exactly the feature I was looking for. Thank you so much jmk!

I also just discovered that selecting it with a single click and then pressing “e” also opens up the editor dialog.

Been there, done that

You don’t need the single click, just hover and press E.
