Funny a thing happening here: when I open a specific project in macOS KiCad 8.99, the schematics in this project won’t open – KiCad immediately crashes. I try to open it again and the same behaviour: once again, the schematics makes Kicad 8.99 crash. Then I open the same project, the same files in the windows version of KiCad 8.99 and the schematics will open fine. Then I save the schematics in the windows version of this project, and then open it in macOS version again – this time the schematics opens OK. What could this be? Doesn’t the Windows KiCad and the Mac OS KiCad make similar files when saving? The 8.99 versions in windows and in Mac OS are the same:
Yes, it’s a shared drive: Project opened from the same place: first in Mac OS and then In Windows, via Parallels desktop, saved from Windows 10 to the same place on the Mac drive. If I then save it again in Mac OS it’s still OK: the schematics works fine this time.
Thanks, the issue with the project I’m here talking about has already been reported in the bugs place GitLab in another thread though no issues were found. Must be a spooky project this one
Btw, to clarify, this project was created/saved in Kicad v 8.0x (latest 8.0.7) in Mac OS and then opened in the Nightly Build (8.99) Mac OS and when trying to open the schematics there it crashes while opens fine in the Windows version.
Edit: I will now also install 8.0.7 in Windows and save the original project there to see what happens when I then open this in the Mac OS KiCad 8.99…
You write 8.9.9, not 8.99 quite many times. It doesn’t matter for regulars but it’s better to get the numbers right for the sake of all readers, just to avoid any possible confusion, and maybe to make searching easier.
In general, please as Jon requested file a bug and attach the files there. Gitlab really isn’t that scary (and we provide a button in KiCad about info to report a bug).
However, I’ve taken a look at the project, and it was indeed showing up a nasty little bug. Windows will just have been lucky (but still doing the wrong thing), but macOS was just a bit more aggressive with showing up the issue. It should be fixed in the next nightly.
Thanks, JamesJ, Ok I will give Gitlab another go the next time. Good to hear you found something, as I have been wondering what has been wrong with this project, now in 2 different aspects. Too bad they didn’t find a way to replicate the CTRL+TAB issue I also reported for this project. It’s so good you are developing KiCad for Mac as when I have tested it in the Windows environment the fun is on a different level, too many steps down. It’s about the GUI, how it looks and therefore seems like a true downgrade.
Update: As JamesJ mentioned, it works now in the latest Nightlies. Good work! The CTRL+TAB issue still remain, though, but it’s probably something wrong with this project, nothing to blame on KiCad.
