Is there a simple way to export the complete board assembly with all components to a STEP with current stable release? Wanting to pull my boards into my MCAD model to verify clearances and start my cable routings and design.
Until someone qualified like @maui shows up you might look at his documentation for his plugin called StepUp. As the name implies it is for working with step files but for FreeCAD but you might find something useful to your situation.

StepUp can convert a KiCad board to STEP using FreeCAD as a mechanical translating environment.
After the conversion is done, the generated STEP model can be used in any Mechanical CAD.
