Can you install Kicad on USB flash-drive

Since buying my windows 7 it has taken twice as long to boot up,
I just wondered how it would go

Basically yes, see

So at the moment I have “kicad-5.0.2_1-x86_64.exe” at just over 1GB

So take it I have to download “Portable KiCad”

By the way I just edited my start of the thread, I have Windows 7 (not 8)

Yes, you can.
For me it works fine on Win7, Kicad 5.0.2 or 4.0.7.
You even can install few copies of Kicad. For example, I work with old one 4.0.7 on my PC, but install 5.0.2 on USB to check new features. Just be careful with libraries directories in this case. Its can mixed up.
