About kicad books

Hi:
I want to publish KiCad books, do I need any authorization from kicad?

My understanding is that you would need authorization to use the KiCad logo, which is protected as a trademark, but other than that you are free to refer to KiCad in your book.

Our trademark (https://tmsearch.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=4810:j1tj90.2.1) is on the term “KiCad.”

You probably want to request permission from The Linux Foundation at the address given in the trademark record.

You could also check with a lawyer on your proposed usage. In the US, at least, nominative usage (you can’t write a book about KiCad without saying the term “KiCad”) is allowed without permission.

Of course this is probably moot because we love the idea of people writing KiCad books, so write a quick letter but the answer is almost certainly yes.

I am very happy that KiCad is becoming more and more practical. I like to use KiCad to do some amateur topics. I also like to promote KiCad in Taiwan with the community. We discussed that we could write a book about KiCad. Therefore, I am here to ask about the need for authorization. Thank you very much for your answers.
