Hello,
Any of you has an idea, why some documents open with the PCB fitted to the window and some like this?
I couldn’t find any info in the help docs apart from the view menu, but I want the fit when opening a PCB.
Cheers!

I don’t know the answer . . . but one possibility could be that you have something very small (track, pad, etc) that far out from the drawing sheet that the initial zoom is set to show everything.
Try a zoom to Objects and see if it does the same . . .
Good hint, but that didn’t help. All items are inside the pcb contour.
But I just found, that the Zoom level is at “0.13” upon opening the document. And when switching it to “Auto”, it apparently performs the same action as “Zoom to objects”.
But after changing the zoom, nothing is modified in the file, as there is no asterisk appearing. Also searching for “zoom” inside the project files shows no result as well as some of the zoom levels.
For me, “Auto” seems to perform “Zoom to fit” not “Zoom to objects”. Opening a pcb file also seems to perform “Zoom to fit”.
It looks like “Zoom to fit” is based on the board outline, while “Zoom to objects” includes things like fills and drawings that could be outside the board outline.
So I wonder if there’s something messed up with your board outline that is confusing the zoom calculation? On pcbs that have this issue, try opening the 3D view - it also does a calculation on board outline so might reveal something about the issue.
The Board outline is also alright.
Additionally, with all selection filters active, if select all items and create a group, to see a boundary rectangle, all parts are confined in the Outline area.
And opening the 3D view does an auto fit to the PCB area as well.
If you zip the project and publish it, you might be able to see if other people can have the same experience.
And what is the KiCad version and OS?
It might possibly be a small object located outside the board that is not visible.
Use the Mouse to Drag around the entire PCB ONLY.
Then while Highlighted use CTRL+X (or Edit/Cut) to cut ONLY the PCB off the page.
Then use CTRL+A to Highlight the entire page.
Then press DELETE to remove any remaining objects on the page.
Finally, use CTRL+V to paste ONLY the PCB back onto the page and orient to
its original location. Then SAVE. Then reopen to check.
I recommend using ‘snap to grid’ with a 0.1in/2.54mm setting to easily
align the entire PCB on the page when pasting.
Once PCB is aligned setting for grid can be reduced for greater accuracy of
component/track placement.
HINT: If this method does not work I paste the PCB in the clipboard to a
new PCB page and ‘SAVE AS’ with same name overwrite.
