I am wishing for a per-project grid in the PCB layout package. My use case is that I just designed a board that uses odd-ball 0.156" (3.96mm) connectors. To simplify my layout task, I reduced the number of grid presets to 4: 3.96, 1.98, 0.99 and 0.396 – this meant that I was able to switch rapidly (via “n” key shortcut) between the various grids, and more importantly, the grids were all relevant to my project. I was surprised when I went to work on a different project and had just those four grids available. Yes, I know I can “restore” the grid settings, so all is not lost, but then I’d have to “unrestore” them if I went back to the 0.156" based project.

A while ago I also noticed that grids are stored in the “global / generic” settings, instead of in the project settings, and I agree that having these on a project bases makes more sense.
When your projects are similar to each other, or if you don’t switch often between active projects (for example finish a project before you start a new one) then you probably won’t notice this. I guess most people would agree that it’s logical to save grid settings on a project bases (possibly combined with the “import from other project” feature). I’m guessing that this just slipped though the cracks because no one has found it important enough to report it on gitlab yet. (I did a quick, non exhaustive search just now, and did not see it).
