Win10, update 5.1.8 to 5.1.9 - best practice?

Greetings,

Brand new user here, started two months ago and very happy to be learning it. Also fairly new to Windows 10 (was MacOS only since 2009) and I was just curious if I need to uninstall 5.1.8 before installing 5.1.9…or…anything else specific I need to know regarding library organization or anything? (aside from backing up my work)

Just install over existing files, no need to do anything else.

Thank you. :slightly_smiling_face:

Small word of caution, only in case you edited symbols or footprints from kicad’s standard library, they will be overwritten when you install the new version.

If you save your modifications somewhere else in your personal library, then everything is ok.

You can untick the options for library installation in installer and your modifications will remain. Libraries for 5.1.9 and 5.1.8 are the same.

Still you shouldn’t modify official libraries.

Understood…I did save/modify a few components in the standard library before I learned better. The ones I want to keep are now safe in a separate folder.
