Why is electrical pin type visible on schematic

When I create a new symbol and place a pin the electrical type chosen (input, output, passive, etc) is visible on the end of the pin like the part number or ref des.

I have watched several tutorials and read through the documentation but I do not see this feature when others place a pin.

How do I delete it or make this field hidden?

Thanks

Those tutorials are probably from older versions. It is standard now in the library editor, and personally I’m glad for it. Because of that, I haven’t looked for how to turn it off. Sorry.

Actually, thinking about it, I’d like a feature to turn on to show the electrical pin type on the schematic until the pin is either connected to a net or non-connect symbol… That way if I want to know what a pin is before I connect it I don’t have to open the symbol in the symbol editor. But that’s an idea for another thread…

It won’t show when placed as an actual symbol in a schematic.

It is essential to show this property during symbol definition/creation though.

Thanks for the response, no need to apologize (unless it’s your fault! Haha)

So maybe I am misunderstanding is that property only visible in the library editor? Do the pin types show up in the schematic when you place the part (I haven’t gone that far)? It would seem cluttered if so. I guess I should keep going.

It does not show up in the schematic when placed. You had me worried. I had to create a part and check.

At first that seems like a good idea but it is visual clutter when laying out the schematic. You would inevitably leave more room to accommodate the tags and then wish you hadn’t left so much space later.

Thanks again for the quick response I will march on. I got hung up trying to figure out difference between tutorials and should have just continued on.

On a slight tangent is there a good tutorial for creating a symbol with multiple parts per package? I’m kind of stumbling through it. It’s a pretty basic op-amp that I could probably steal from something already in a different library but would like to learn the process.

@hermit , @SembazuruCDE It should be obvious by now that I do not like visual clutter on the final schematic.

A toggle menu item, to show pin types, that were not connected, and then vanished when a net was connected to them might actually be a pretty nifty idea.

Just a follow up but in the symbol editor preferences under Symbol Editor there is a checkbox for “show pin electrical type”. So there is a way to turn it off.

That’s why I thought it would be best as a feature to turn on and off. And probably should default to off on the schematic itself. @cabala found how to turn it off in the symbol editor.

Lol. Actually you were one of the ones that I though would hate having it clutter the schematic the most.

Yeah, that is pretty much my idea. I’ll sleep on it and if I still like the idea in the morning I’ll add it to be a wishlist item over on launchpad.
