That’s probably pretty much how it goes (IANAL). Remember that anyone can register a domain name and keep it hostage or sell it, which is quite large business. Those who govern and sell registration services in the first place don’t take any responsibility.

Yes, they replied on the developer list and were willing to let KiCad use the name, so we now have the kicad organization name on GitLab
