When I place a via, the screen will flash

Hi all,

I met a problem that when I place a via in the PCB editor, the scrren will flash one time, here is a video to show you what it is:

Anyone met the same problem with me?

Sounds like buggy video drivers. Try to update them.

No, this is not a video card issue. I have updated the driver to the latest driver but the issue is the same.

Actually, when I open the PCB editor, in the degining, there is no issue when I place a via until I place a via which is violate rules and then the screen will flash when I place any via ( no matter whether the via violates a rule or not).

What is your video hardware and driver version? If it’s a laptop does it have dual graphics?

It’s unlikely that the flashing has anything to do with rule violation, more likely to do with vias using shaders to render and your graphics doing something funky.

Well, it’s not a general KiCad issue, your video is the first time I see this issue. So it’s either something weird with your graphics hardware (e. g. a video card issue) or it’s another weirdness with your system. I assume your Windows 11 has no unusual configuration like a special theme or special graphics settings?

Maybe try if this issue also happens with “fallback graphics” in the settings.

Hi,

I try to fall back the nvidia video card settings to default settings in ‘Nvidia control panel’, but everything is the same.
My system information and display information is on above.

Yeah so you have 2 graphics cards, one AMD radeon built into the CPU, another dedicated Nvidia 3060 GPU.

Normally your laptop uses the first but switches to more powerful second when it detects the need to. You can try 2 things:

Update your amd drivers, your current one is 1 year old. Nvidia drivers are up to date.
Somewhere in windows settings or nvidia control panel should be a way to force switching to dedicated graphics when kicad is launched. You can try that setting, unfortunately I don’t have more specific instructions as I don’t have a dual graphics laptop with windows on it.

Hi,
I have updated AMD display card driver to the latest version, but everthing is the same.

And the I force ‘pcbnew.exe’ to use AMD display card/nvidia display card, but everthing is the same.

And I use nvidia control panel to force the settings to default settings, but everything is the same.

Can you try if it happens with Fallback graphic?

You should do it for kicad.exe too.

When I switch kicad.exe to AMD core video card, the issue disappeared.

I think this is an issue which is related to nvidia video card driver.
