I’m looking at building a project that has a heatsink (for a TO-220) and I was going to use the “standard” one from Aavid, but I wanted to put the project into a case.
When looking through the heatsinks in the library (on KiCAD 5.1 at least), I saw that there is one that is 125x50x35mm that seemed to have mounting holes on the long edge. I like this idea and tried to find the part it was based off of but couldn’t. So does anyone know what part it is based on?
Such holes work with self tapping screws.
The heatsink you found in the KiCad library has full round holes, I don’t know it’s origin, but it seems likely it is a custom job. Holes can be drilled in any heatsink with a thick enough base.
I haven’t looked at the actual part in the library, but based on the footprint name I’d look for part number SK104-STC-STIC made by manufacturer Fischer. If that doesn’t work then SK104-STC or `SK104-STIC’.
Actually I was referring to finding a datasheet for your suggested Fisher heatsink to make sure it is physically the correct one for the OP’s application. I can see now how I didn’t make that clear. Sorry for the confusion.
I normally get the heat sink and then just block out areas on the silkscreen and fab layers with simple lines. Too many heat sinks and no real cad skills on my side though but not needed for my projects. I just need to know where they sit on the board.
