What have I done? Everything very dull

I must have activated some mode, and now everything is very dim and dull. I went back to another computer running 6, and confirmed that the colors are much brighter.

you pressed " ā€™ " charachter ?

Not sure.
Pressing that again didnā€™t change anything.
What does it do?

Itā€™s the shortcut for highlighting net. But it doesnā€™t work for example with Finnish keyboard.

Euhm, almost, but not really.
@Claudio.Lorini showed a quotation mark, or apostophe, while the highlight is (by default) under the back tick key. (Upper left corner, just under [Esc] on an English / US Keyboard.

But I compared colors and what 3Dogs posted has different colors from the highlighting, so Iā€™m not sure what is going on. I also wonder why the bottom copper layer is not shown. Is it off?

Edit:
High contrast mode (As JeffYoung posted below) also seems unlikely. That dims the ā€œnon selectedā€ layers, but does not change the color of the active copper layer.

Are you in high-contrast mode?

I think is has something to do with ā€œThemes.ā€
Itā€™s not a big problem, Iā€™ll live with it.

There should be a ā€œclassicā€ theme which will give you the old colours. (Though the new ones are better for people that have some level of colour blindness.)

Me? No, itā€™s just that the backtick ā€œ`ā€ has never worked for me. Itā€™s not an independent one click character in my keyboard, itā€™s a ā€œdead keyā€. I can reach the shortcut only by switching the keyboard layout. Also some other default shortcuts which require more than one key donā€™t work, at all (itā€™s impossible to attach a shortcut to some characters even though they can be typed using AltGr).

thatā€™s correct, i meant the back tick that is the default key (in my ā€˜smallā€™ keyboard is missing so i associated the select net to " ā€™ ").

Sorry, no, I meant to be asking the original poster if they were in high-contrast modeā€¦

I cycled through ā€˜H,ā€™ and that didnā€™t fix it.

Iā€™m not sure what the actual problem is in your screenshot. Everything there looks normal, except that youā€™re using the ā€œclassicā€ color theme rather than the default for 6+. Is this what you mean? The classic theme is more ā€œdullā€.

Now Iā€™m not sureā€¦
It may be some monitor calibration issue.

The colors look very different on my two machines, but it all may come down to the fact that I havenā€™t calibrated my monitors since changing computers.

I think this can be closed.

Nope, we can see those colors in our web browser to.

I think craftyjonā€™s last post is on the mark.

If I go to: PCB Editor / Preferences / Preferences / PCB Editor / Colors and set the ā€œThemeā€ to ā€œKiCad Classicā€, then I get the same #840000 red color for the top layer as on your screenshot.

Also: In the ā€œKiCad Classicā€ theme, the bottom layer is green, while in the newer ā€œKiCad Defaultā€ theme, the bottom layer is light blue.

So it looks like your thoughts here were right:
