If I remember correctly, last time Wayne mentioned something about getting rid of the update through the net file and that schematic and board are going to be updated without an intermediate step of generating a net file. Whatever happened to that?

It’s there in the nightlies. Press F8 in the schematic (or go to Tools->Update PCB).
