Want to change references to parts that I've already laid out

Hi all.

I’ve got a pretty big circuit that I’ve laid out using the auto generated references. However, I’ve now decided that I want to manually change the reference numbers in-order as they appear on my already laid out board without me having to re-position each individual part. What would be the best approach to take?

I’ve found a solution to set the “Footprint Select” to “timestamp” option instead of the “references” to update a part’s reference without changing its already laid out position
