So I am using Via in Pad to create the space I need. most of them are buried, JLCPCB does not support blind/buried Via’s but are happy with Via in Pad.
If I select Through hole via in Kicad, I cant then apparently set the destination layer as anything other then the last layer.
I can set Annular rings on all layers of course,
Is this the ‘solution’?
And if it is the solution, will the via netclass, connect by default to a filled plane, Eg, a GND via connect the Multiple / Single GND plane(s?)
A via that is inserted while routing a particular net, gets that net assigned to it.
After that, it will connect to any zone with the same net name, regardless of the layer it is on.
The only advantage to blind or buried vias is the space that they save on layers where they are not connected.
It was more a question on the limitation of Blind / buried Vias not being supported and what the solution to that might be for say 2 inner layers.
I suppose given that through hole support is the only option it has to be the ‘solution’ by default.
My concern was that the properties box for Via’s has a start and end layer and it gives the impression the via might automatically connect to all layers - I can now see the void created in zones.
I did indeed want blind/buried to save space, routing is getting quite difficult within my constrained space!
Via in pad is just a normal F-B via, but in a pad so watch out for solder theft or use filling,
Buried vias, blind and micro-vias are for the more specialist and expensive PCB fabs.
