Downloaded a footprint from SnapMagic and followed the instructions for importing the “*.kicad_mod” to the global library (KiCAD > Preferences > Manage Footprint Libraries…) and in the “Footprint Libraries” windows the folder containing the “.kicad_mod” file shows up at the bottom of the list in the “Global Libraries” tab. In the Footprint Editor it is not in the list in the “Libraries” panel on the left side of the window. Footprint Editor > File > Add Library > Global > and selecting the folder that contains the “.kicad_mod” file and it still does not show up in the “Libraries” panel of the Footprint Editor. What needs to be done to make KiCAD “see” the “.kicad_mod” file?
Adding the library (directory) to: Project Manager / Preferences / Manage Footprint Libraries should be enough. Are you sure the path name is correct?
The list of footprint libraries in the footprint editor is also very long. I think it’s normally alphabetically sorted, so your library may be somewhere in the middle. You can “pin” a library (right click on it), and this will keep it at the top of the list, but before you can do that, you have to find it first…
