Upgrade procedures (Ubuntu) when 6.0 final is released?

With 6.0 final just around the corner I have a few queries on the upgrade process.

My OS is Ubuntu 20.04 and have KiCad 5.12 installed as well as 6.0RC1 nightlies (Which I have been using for a while)

When 6.0 final is released I’m guessing 5.12 will not be automatically upgraded to 6.0 as I have a repo pointing to

ppa:kicad/kicad-5.1-releases

I will need to add a new repo for kicad-6.0-releases and then install from scratch?

Does that mean I will need to uninstall 5.x and install 6.0? Or will 6.0 auto detect 5.x and upgrade?

Also regard the nightlies, if I leave the repo I have pointing to

http://ppa.launchpad.net/kicad/kicad-dev-nightly/ubuntu

I’m guess it will continue to work and upgrate as new KiCad (7.x)? files are released? In which case would it be a good idea to uninstall the nightly/remove the repo’s?

Last query is when 6.0 final installs, will it detect I have 6.0RCx installed and migrate any settings I have in place?

I imagine we will add that PPA and then yes you’d want to add it. It will provide a kicad package that will replace the 5.1.12 you have today.

Because both packages are called kicad, 5.x will be upgraded to 6.0 when you add the new PPA (once it exists). You don’t need to manually uninstall 5.x first.

Yes, kicad-nightly will continue providing 6.99 nightlies. You can keep it or remove it depending on your preferences.

Yes, 6.0-rc and 6.0 final use the same settings.
