The Freerouting project is used as an external autorouter by many KiCad users. There are problems with complex and rounded rectangular pads and will be more with polygonal pads.
Freerouting is built on source code released onto GitHub three years ago.
There is an updated project on GitHub that should be of interest to a few people here.
