Update Help Requested from KiCad End Users

Hi Folks!

One area of KiCad that hasn’t gotten a lot of love recently is our Templates (https://gitlab.com/kicad/libraries/kicad-templates).

Many of these are pretty standard templates that were created in KiCad version 4.

We have progressed quite a bit since then and there are a number of outstanding issues with the old templates. If you have some time, and are a relatively experienced KiCad user, it would be great if you could adopt a template and bring it up to KiCad v6 standards. Some of the outstanding issues are listed at https://gitlab.com/kicad/libraries/kicad-templates/-/issues/8

Many of the template footprints are also missing elements like courtyards that are flagged by our new DRC.

Thank you for any time you are willing to offer here!

Is there something like KLC for templates? It would be best to set the common standard for these, to make their use experience as consistent as possible.

I’d take the STM disco shield under my wings, but I’d need clear guidelines on what should be the final form.
Maybe this user forum might be a good place to discuss on what we would expect from a high quality project template.

We do not have KLC for templates yet. This is an open issue (https://gitlab.com/kicad/services/kicad-website/-/issues/352) that could use some attention.
