Update from Schematic Icon Missing

I’ve been cleaning up schematics to associate footprints to symbols from newly created footprint folders.

When I open the pcb from the schematic editor, I no longer see the toolbar option to update from schematic:

And, I sse the errors I’m trying to eliminate when I run DRC (… configuration does not include the library …)

What’s going on?

I just use F8 or Tools > Update PCB from Schematic. I think there once was an icon but it’s been deprecated. Or maybe I was thinking of the Generate Netlist icon in 5.1. It’s not something that I am concerned about forgetting, unlike my name and home address.

If you mean “I no longer see the toolbar option to update the PCB from the schematic”, you will find that function listed in “Tools”.

Please explain this comment.

Tools > Update PCB from Schematic was “greyed out”.

But, the message I got after hitting F8 revealed the problem. Something like I was running in stand-alone mode and had to open a project to get the update from schematic function.

Here’s what I think happened…

Every time I added a new footprint to my new footprints folder, I had to close and re-open the schematic for the new footprint to show up in the footprint assignment tool–at least that’s the only way I could figure out how to do it.

his somehow got the schematic open in “stand-alone” mode. Not sure how or why that happened.

Anyway, when I closed the project, reopened it, started the schematic editor, and launched pcbNew from the editor, all worked as usual.

The DRC errors I referenced in the original post were actual warnings like

"The current configuration does not include the library “foo”.

Those warnings were eliminated with the footprint assignment changes I made.

Thanks for your atttention.
