Unused Copper Layers in Pcbnew

Can somebody help me with this please. I have designed a board with 6-layers as I thought that was what I would need. In fact I completed it with 4 layers. So, what I am trying to do is to simply remove the unused copper layers but KiCad appears not to be giving me the option of which layer I should remove. It seems it wants to just remove any two layers and I am concerned that it will remove the wrong layers.

I thought I could just untick the layer that I don’t want but I get the following message instead:

If try what Kicad suggest, I get the following message:

Frightening as I don’t know which copper layer it will remove.

Is there a safe way that this can be done?

Many thanks.

Sorry I should have mentioned that I’m using Kicad 5.1.7. Before I get told off, it’s not my choice. My paying customer insists I use that version and would not be persuaded any other way!

I don’t know . . . but logically it would remove In3 & In4 so if you ensure that your inner layers in use are In1 and In2 you should be OK.

Do a full backup, or two just to be safe and give it a go.

Actually, I have used In3 and In4. Free layers are In1 and In2.

Many thanks @RaptorUK . Sorted. As expected, it deleted my used In3 and In4. However, fortunately these are just power planes of the same shape as my ground plane on Btm_Cu. So I just copied the polygon to In1 and In2 and rename the nets. Voila! All is well.

You are welcome

For future reference, you could have edited the properties for your Zones (planes) and moved them to the correct layers.

Also, PCB Editor → Edit → Swap Layers.

Not sure that was available in V5.1.7

Oh, I forgot… … … … 20char

In the last couple of days I got an LTSpice simulation file from a colleague; it would not run. I had to downgrade…install an older LTSpice version from about 7 years ago. Then it ran without difficulty.
