I’m new to kicad, after some frantic clicking around a white (in opengl, gray in default canvas) crosshair symbol appeared on my PCB.
The size stays fixed on the screen no matter the zoom level. I can’t select it or interact with it as far as I know.
What is it? And how can I get rid of it again?
That’s the grid origin point you’ve placed there. Not sure if you can get rid of it, but you can move it. I usually place it at bottom left corner of my board edge.

you can get rid of it if you place it right on top of the normal origin that is at the left top (little bit outside of the frame)
Can this in any way have an effect on Gerber and PCB production?
No, unless it appears in any layer in the gerber files you sent to the board fabricator = always check your gerbers
