Unable To Install KiCad [Solved]

Hello everyone. I am unable to install KiCad Software on my Windows 10 PC. Every time I am trying to install the software, it shows the “Error Opening File For Writing” message. I don’t know why this happening and how to fix it. If anyone provides any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

KiCad V4 had default project file used when you call ‘File-New-Project’ located in KiCad directory and those time I have read in KiCad documentation that to allow for that default be modified (by just opening in KiCad and saving) it would be better to not install KiCad in standard Program Files directory as Windows ‘don’t like’ if someone modifies files there.
Because of this till now I always installed KiCad in my own directory ‘C:\Programs’.
I don’t have Win10 so I didn’t tried to install KiCad at Win10, but at your place I would try to install not in ‘Program Files’ directory. I don’t know if it will help, but who knows.

Do you get UAC prompt? Installer must be run with administrator privileges, make sure you have it (writing to c:\program files needs administrator privileges).

Also, windows does have “smart screen” (or similarly called?) Windows security setting, maybe windows defender tries you protect falsely…

Where did you fetch the file from and what is the exact name of the installer file

Thanks for replying to all. already I figure out the issue after finding this on Google. I just run the installer with the administrative permission, the issue is fixed.

Normally you just get a pop up run as administrator request for the installer

Hello @Donaldfry

It would be great if you could edit your title as solved.
Use the pencil icon at the bottom of your original post.
Thanks.

Moderators can do that too

@davidsrsb
I can also. Was hoping OP would.

Mods probably default to being helpful and not letting things slip through the crack. Now the OP knows they have the ability. I thought others might too but I just know what I see. :wink:
