Unable to find 1/4'' audio jack in kiCAD library

Hello everyone, I am new to kiCAD. I would like to know where I can find 1/4’’ audio jacks in kiCAD’s library ? I am trying to build a guitar pedal and need those jacks for electric guitar audio inputs.

Thank you.

Schematic symbol or PCB footprint?

I get a couple dozen typing ‘audio’.

if I type audio I only get headphones ones. I would need something like that
Thanks

jack

Both if possible please.

Please post a link to a datasheet or at least a picture of the items. I’m not 100% sure you are using correct terminology. The “headphones ones” is exactly what my electric guitar uses. You can use any two terminal jack as in input symbol on the schematic. It really makes no difference. The important part is the footprint. That must be exact. If you don’t have a datasheet you will need the part in hand to do measurements.

Sure, if I type ‘audio’ I get these ones.
Which one do you use for your electric guitars if may ask please ?

thanks.

I’ve made some Stomp Boxes (for Guitar) and use the AudioJack2 ( “TS” is what the 1/4" jacks are). TS refers to ‘Tip Sleeve’ as opposed to ‘TRS’ Tip Ring Sleeve

In KiCad, a lot of schematic symbols do not have PCB footprints attached. Especially the “generic” symbols such as resistors, capacitors and connectors. So you choose a schematic symbol which most closely resembles your application. I am not familiar with guitar electronics. Does it only use two connections? does it use the switch?

For the PCB footprint it’s more complicated. There can be hundreds of different footprints for a connector. Both from different manufacturers, and for different models of the same manufacturer. Most often KiCad does not have footprint for these. I prefer to make footprints that are not in the libraries myself. Others prefer to use services from the web such as from snapeda or pcblibraries. There are about 10 or more websites that specialize in big databases for PCB footprints.

okay, that makes sense. Thank you so much.

Okay I get it. Most guitar jack inputs are mono, so just two connections will do it. Some other applications such as guitars with active pickups.

Okay, I would rather search for footprints. Thank you, that was very helpful.

Because 3D-Models in Kicad are used for Only graphic representation, I don’t often bother with various models but, sometimes I do, especially for stuff that mounts on the PCB and/or relates to Enclosures.

Sometimes I do use 3D models of wires and cables. I updated this one while drinking black coffee this morning…

Use it (if desired) in a Footprint. Note: Yes, Guitar Audio cables are Two Wire but, Good Cables also have Ground-Shields and this cable has three wires (Black and Grey can be tied together for the Ground…

EDIT: Changed Name, Coloring and placed on PCB (added Footprint)

Here’s a neutrik footprint that fits various ts and trs models. You can easily make a schematic symbol to your liking:
