Trying to make first, simple part

I am making first attempt to make a pcb. As part of it I am creating a simple symbol and footprint. The symbol is a circle with a single pin. It works as expected in schematic with a wire attaching between two symbols W1 and W2. Then I create a footprint for a 10 AWG wire. The footprint is created as a through hole with 2.84mm hole and 3.84mm pad. I have assciated the footprint to the symbol. When copying to PCB I get an warning that says no net found. What am I doing wrong?

I hereby certify that I am not simply asking someone else to design a footprint for me.

This is an auto-generated message that is in place on the “footprints” section of the KiCad.info forum. If I remove it and ask for a footprint to be designed anyway, I understand that I will be subject to forum members telling me to go design my own footprint or referring me to a 3rd party footprint site.

Don’t copy the footprint to the PCB. Instead, on the schematic, use Tools > Update PCB from Schematic.

Using this method automatically assigns nets as well as placing the footprint on the PCB.

Have you read the “Getting started in Kicad”?
The tutorial can be found in the Kicad Documents here. Other more comprehensive articles are also listed in the Docs.

Sorry, I stated incorrectly. I did Update for PCB. It seems I did something wrong making the symbol or the footprint. Later I made the same part copying from a different part and it worked fine. I am not sure what I did wrong with the part from scratch
