Tilde symbol not working

Does the ~SIGNAL no longer work in Kicad 7 for putting a line over the top of the symbol? When I use the ~ it justs adds it to the front of the symbol name.

~{SIGNAL} is the way now.

This is the Way.

(any thoughs on how to make the line nearer to the text?)

Gawd I hate this requirement.
The old way seemed so elegant

They cound change it to the Eagle way: !nSIGNAL!/SIGNAL
So instead of ~{nSIGNAL}/SIGNAL just use ~nSIGNAL~/SIGNAL

Why not ?

That was in fact how it used to expressed before if the overbar shouldn’t extend to the end of the string.
