Text or symbol property?

When I place a connector on my schematic there are several information I want to show:

  • reference: already available as property
  • value: already available as property, usually the p/n of the connector
  • function: the purpose of the connector

I’m wondering what is the best/recommended workflow here. I can just add a Text note or add a symbol property with the third information.

At first sight, I believe the property is more handy since it will “follow” the symbol when moved (instead the Text label should be moved separately and this is error prone).

Is there any drawback to use the symbol properties for this purpose?

Add a new property.
Add as many properties as you wish.
That is the purpose of the function.
No drawbacks. If you find the schematic too cluttered with information just make some information invisible. :slightly_smiling_face:

In addition:

You can use Schematic Editor / File / Schematic Setup / General / Field Name Templates to add some “virtual” field names that you can then fill in for each symbol if needed.

One thing that I use quite often.
Add a field with the name of the connector (its function).
Then you can use this field in the footprint editor to add a silkscreen text showing the name of the connector.
