I just downloaded and installed kicad-7.0-testing_r31967.64641c28ef-x86_64-lite.exe from
https://downloads.kicad.org/kicad/windows/explore/7.0-testing.
In about, the version says:
Version: 7.0.1-31-g64641c28ef, release build
Didn’t it use to say testing build? Maybe it’s always been tagged like this and perhaps that’s correct. Just seemed odd to me.

It’s technical terminology and doesn’t have much to do with versioning. It’s compiled in certain way from source code to a binary.
