The KiCAD footprint library has a test point part in “Connect:PINTST”. There’s even a nice 3D model for it. Looks great in the 3D render.
Unfortunately, I sent a board to fab with some of these, and can’t find any real test point part to fit the tiny 0.635mm hole in the footprint. Is there such a part? DigiKey doesn’t have anything that small. Their smallest is 0.89mm.
There are some weird components in the standard libraries, this is one of them! I’ve never seen anything like the 3D model as a real component. I sometimes wonder how much experimental stuff is left over from the earliest days of KiCad.
Vero make test points in the form of little loops or pegs, but those are designed for larger holes.
The 3D model looks like a standard header pin, but undersized. Those need a 1mm hole. If this KiCAD footprint specified a 1mm through hole, it would match up with real parts. Did someone just guess at the hole size when creating the footprint? Grrr. Should I submit a bug?
That’s why I mentioned them… one naturally has to search a bit to find them.
That’s what I’ve been using and I’m sure it would fit into a 0.635mm hole (probably tight though - more like a press fit then - but should be good for contact):
