I have big issue with KiCad under Ubuntu 24.04 No matter if I install KiCad V8 as snap or KiCad V9 as .deb, the whole system freeze when I opening the Standard Library. I work on a Laptop with 4 Gb Memory. That’s a pity, because I can’t work with KiCad like that.
Using Wayland? Try switching to X11: https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-enable-disable-wayland-on-ubuntu-22-04-desktop

I have X11 installed
This Morning I installed KiCad V7 and made some test and it seems KiCad run without freezing. At least with the few tests I did
Of course it would be installed, but are you using it? Can you post full KiCad version info?

Replying in order to not get this thread closed, and hopefully, getting a solution.
I have the exact same issue in Debian 12 (KDE plasma 5, X11, nomodeset on) with KiCad 9, indistinctly it is from a deb or flatpak install.
I’ll be thankful If any of you can point me to the possible solution or exact bug report.
