Component groups are needed - when I want just to relocate already traced part of layout.
That is called a “block operation” in KiCAD.
The information in the “Help” document for PCBNew (Sections 3.2.2., and 3.7) is very sketchy but outlines the possible actions. Lay out a very simple board and practice some of the operations. Then come back with your follow-up questions. (As a previous user of several Windows board layout programs, I didn’t think the block operations were very “natural”, nor “intuitive”.)
