Stuttering in KicadPCB - anyone else notice it?

I experience stuttering in Kicad PCB when moving objects around. Every few seconds the move stops for a fraction of a second or so. I notice it in V9 but it might also be present in V8. I also see it in the 3D viewer when continuously moving the board around.

I first thought it was linked to one of my PC’s but now I also notice it on other PC’s I have access to, both my portable i9-based workstation at work and my desktop and laptops at home.

Anyone else notices it?

On which operating systems, windowing systems, desktop environments, CPU, GPU, GPU drivers?

Do you use git on network/cloud drives or slow HDDs?

If you do, try the latest 9.0 testing builds, this issue should be fixed.

I had the issue with an AMD GPU. Now that I switched to an RTX3060 everything works fine

Your issue depended on zoom levels and only in PCB editor, I think it’s different

you’re right. I did some quick testing and I think I can reproduce @Marc_Vandenhende’s issue in KiCad 8.0.9. If I have a fairly complex board, select everything and try to move it, my CPU usage spikes:

That’s not “stuttering” “Every few seconds” though.

Fair point. It feels sluggish, similar to the GPU being maxed out. But there are no random stutters, true

Will check later today. It happens on multiple systems that all have very different hardware (i5, i7, i9 cpus, win10 and win11).

I tried the latest test build and can confirm that the issue is gone! :+1:
