For a simply PCB I did all 3D-models myself, except the banana connectors.
I exported STEP-Files for the devices I created, but copied the KiCad provided wrl-files into my 3D model directory.
I havenât read the Article but, as far as I know, âin Kicadâ you canât make a STEP from a WRL. There are Tools on the internet to do it and can use CAD to do it (some convert to only .STL but, investigate itâŚ)
Thus, if your Banana Jackâs are WRLâs, no STEPâs⌠(I could be wrong but, I just tried it and No STEP resulted from a WRL. However, a STEP was produced from having a STEP.
Oh⌠And, if you use one of the Kicad Stock Banana Jacks, go to the 3D-Panel and Change the WRL to STEP, the Lib has STEP of them. Add it (and unCheck visibility) or, change it
I placed 6 Banana Jacks onto PCB.
Each has the WRL assigned as the 3D.
I Exported the PCB as STEP and Kicad used their STEP modelâs for the Export, not the WRLâs.
Colors are as defined in the STEPâs.
Into FreeCAD, I Imported the WRLâs, the STEPâs and the Exported STEP
You see them all with the colors:
The 3D-Viewer uses the WRLâs
The STEP use the color defined in STEP
Iâm not saying the STEP Colors are correctly defined or, perhaps they are (with Green Outer Barrelâs) as the âwhom-everâ wanted them to be when created.
When you get comfortable knowing itâs a STEP file you want to use, you can Color it in most any CAD/Other program.
And/Or, can Color it using my App⌠Shown in Video below⌠(Needed FreeCAD/other to set the initial RGB Color of Black to 1,0,0). Otherwise, not necessary). Link to the App
Black STEP (with (1,0,0) attached so you can use it with the App, if interested BLACK.step (104.4 KB)
