Standard logic libraries: only DIP footprint filters?

I noticed that standard logic symbols from 4xxx and 74xx libraries have only DIP footprint filters defined. Is that intentional? Or do you plan to add SMD filters later?

No idea. Never used this function.

Do you consider 74HC595 “standard”? It’s also got footprint filters for SOIC and TSSOP. KiCad’s library team has a quite big backlog for merge requests. All submissions are checked / verified and held to a quite high standard. Quality is more important then quantity. I have not checked which symbols are waiting for verification or can’t be merged because they have issues still open on gitlab. You can easily check this for yourself though (or even help with reducing the backlog

I meant base 4xxx and 74xx parts. I know KiCad regards lots of parts as generic and it’s up to the user to choose the right footprint manually. So I posted here to ask about general intention.

I actually have two (unrelated) symbols prepared for merge request, but I’m reluctant to sumbit them. KiCad libraries use some odd hacks (invisible pins and such) and I need to use them a bit longer before I feel “qualified” enough to contribute.

(Funny you’d mention 74xx595. I found at least one of these in about every third device I opened, repaired or scrapped lately. So for me, the answer is definitely “yes”.)

Interesting, 74HC14 has only the DIP filter, but 74HC595 has several filters. I guess the symbols haven’t been updated in a while.
