The KiCad project is proud to announce the latest version 9 bug fix release. See the blog post on the KiCad website for more information about this release. The mirrors should be updated soon.
Looks good!
I’m curious as it doesn’t seem to be explained in the blog post: I noticed the 3D Library package on Arch reduced in size by over 100MB compared to 9.0.2. What is the major change in the library?
Probably the regeneration of a few hundred step models that resulted in them being smaller.
But disk space is not a metric we track
The Windows package is only a very little smaller, so this doesn’t seem right
There is only 10MB difference in the compressed packages. KiCad’s 3D models are in text formats that are highly compressible (and take up lots more space when decompressed). There is no big difference in the size downloaded from the Arch repos for the same reason there is no big difference in the size of the Windows installer: both are compressed.
