I am using a SOT89-3 footprint in my pcbnew layout. I am not sure how to draw pin 2 - trapezoidal? Does anyone have a SOT8903 footprint/module for kicad?
Hi, Margaret. You can find the SOT89-3 footprint in the Housings_SOT-89 library on github: https://github.com/KiCad/Housings_SOT-89.pretty
Thank you. These are the new .pretty format libraries…I am using the last stable Windows build (4022) - which doesn’t support .pretty? I’m unsuccessfully tried adding the module w/in cvpcb. Which build are you running? If 4022, how do you import the .pretty formated modules for cvpcb? If another build, would you recommend moving to that build? (a challenge I have with kicad is there has not been a stable build since 7/2013)…
I very much appreciate your help.
The old .mod Kicad libraries are stored here: https://github.com/KiCad/kicad-library/tree/master/modules. I was hoping they had the Housings_SOT-89.mod file there, but I guess not. I tried to save the new footprint into the old format, but my version of Kicad doesn’t support that.
I’m way out there on build 5054, Margaret. Can’t say whether I’d recommend that for you or not. It does support the github library sharing, but it may have new bugs. Then again, it probably fixes old bugs that were found in your stable version.
And again - thank you. Alas, I apologize for my lack of kicad abilities. The file format is .kicad_pcb - which I take to be some new kind of format - but it is not .mod format … is there some way to convert the .kicad_pcb file format to .mod? I can’t find a reference to how folks take a .kicad_pcb and use as a footprint…seems like there is something obvious I just don’t understand.
You’ve been very helpful.
This question is old, probably you’ve found the solution already, but anyway.
You can draw the simplified landing patter, like this one:
Maybe add a track between the middle and the top pads.
