[SOLVED]Reference designators of multi-unit symbols have a dot?

Since a few nightlies I notice that the reference designators multi-unit symbols have a dot at the end.
Does anyone know if that’s by design?
Cheers

I remember seeing that several formats are available when editing the symbol, maybe there’s also the traditional one without the dot.

Yeah, that’s what I remember too. But I cannot find the UI to change that (any more?).

…and it is a suffix, which makes no sense IMHO. U9.A would be fine, but U9A. ?

Dot?

U9A
for both 6.99 & 6.0.9 here.

It’s in the Schematic Editor, File > Schematic Setup. That’s because the symbol itself doesn’t have the format in it, the units are presumably labelled 1, 2, etc, but in the schematic you can choose to render the unit as A, .A, _1, .1, etc.

Ah hah!

I’ve never changed anything there, forgotten it existed :slightly_frowning_face:

Just downloaded the latest 6.99, so by default it must be U9A no dots, dashes, or underscores.

Ah - there it is. Thx a lot. But then it is a bug, I selected .A and I get A.

I did change it and I forgot where. Maybe this is the tribute to age 69

What happens if you start from a blank schematic? I’m wondering if your .kicad_sch has recorded the index of the format chosen and the array of formats in the editor has been changed, assuming it’s done that way in the code.

Was about to test that as you wrote. No luck though, same story. U9.A → U9A., U9_A → U9A_ a.s.o
So: bug. Heading over to the bug tracker.
Thanks guys.

Confirm. Blank or populated.

I’m there far too often :slightly_frowning_face:

Well done for nabbing one of those critters. :+1:

They got no chance in the long run…
Maybe found an ACL (Anti-Critter-League)?

Bug not present in 6.0.9

So my bug report has to be edited.

Over and out, have a nice day all of you!

Needed editing anyway… 6.09 … the case of the missing dot, a bit different to the misplaced dot

So I guess this would be a tale that could be entitled: The Curious Incident of the Dot in the Night-Time

The allusion: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time - Wikipedia

LOL…
Was writing this while having a snack. Never produced more typos than in this thread. And the bug report. And…

Anyways…
