[SOLVED]Kicad 4.0.7 Pcbnew not working on UbuntuStudio 18.04

Hi,
I just upgraded my system from UbuntuStudio 17.10 to 18.04, and Pcbnew is not working. The program launches and I get an empty window. Zooming in I get something like this imagepcbnew_cropped
Any ideas?

Feel free to mark that this bug affects you too… I am in the same boat, I don’t want to change my OS again but I’ve got some work I have to get done over the weekend so I’m hoping for a quick fix. (It’s my own fault for upgrading without testing though)

I have the same problem. Also,in Eschema, the cursor leaves a track on the screen when I move it across the screen. I have to redraw the screen (F3) every time I move the cursor.

Please report this to Ubuntu (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kicad/+bug/1769220). This is a library issue with the libraries that they have chosen to package. Without the correct library dependencies, KiCad cannot work.

I did a bug report. Hopefully this will get fixed in the near future…

Might be a good idea to link the bug here.

Is UbuntuStudio using the same packages as regular Ubuntu?

Sure. Since it’s the first time I reported a bug with ubuntu-bug, I don’t know how to find the link. I logged in Ubuntu One but can’t see any link to bug reports I’ve made. Some help?

It’s the same Kicad version used by regular Ubuntu, 4.0.7, and I’m pretty sure most of the packages are the same. Only the kernel which is low-latency by default is different, and the fact that UbuntuStudio comes with some software pre-installed, like Ardour, Pure Data, Gimp, and others.

It is probably this report https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kicad/+bug/1770430

I’ve marked it as a duplicate of the previous report so that the report logs get linked for the devs.

Yup, that’s the one. Thanks.

The new ppa repository fixes the issue!
