I created a new project as usual, drew the schematic (incomplete as yet) then did F8 to create the PCB. The PCB did get created, with all the components and their assigned footprints (feetprint ?)
What I do not get however, and sorely miss, is the rat’s nest, indicating what electrical connections still need to be created through routing. I suppose it is a setting that was accidentally changed but cannot find what or where.
To avoid the obvious first reply question: yes yes I did try toggling the “display rat’s nest” and also the “rat’s nest appearance” - it does not make a difference, of course, or I’d not have asked. The “unrouted” counter shows 76, though, which looks like it might be quite correct.
Environment: 7.0.7~ubuntu22.04.1 package, rolled out on Ubuntu LTS 22.04.3
All footprints assigned? I suppose there would be an error message if not.
What about the visibility controls on the right? Also look through the preferences to see if there are any ratsnest related hotkeys you may have touched by accident.
you mean PCB Editor / View / Show Ratsnest and the other is in Appearance Manager / Objects / Ratsnest
When you have
Then at least there is a decent part of a netlist in the PCB editor, so that also excludes a bunch of silly things.
When I go to: PCB Editor / Preferences / Preferences / Hotkeys, and search for the text “ratsnest”, then I see a bunch of options that do not have a key assigned on my system (and I don’t have experience with either). Maybe you have turned on some option that only shows the local ratsnest for a selection?
Thanks for quick reply, I’m afraid it does not help me very much though. Please be aware that I am a fairly new user, this is perhaps the fifth pcb I draw.
Yes, footprints have all been assigned, except one which I deliberately left out.
What exactly do you mean by “the visibility controls on the right”? I did try a ctrl-a to select all elements, then clicked “toggle ratsnest on select elements” - no effect.
I found the “Preferences”, it is apparently a set of options common to all projects; I found nothing abnormal but then again I am not a power user.
Ah, thanks again, I found it, but alas it seems like ok. Sorry I cannot produce a screen copy, but “ratsnest display” has the “All” checked, I tried walking through the other options but to no effect. Idem ditto for the “net colors” option just above.
Problem solved. As usual, it was created by own imagined cleverness - I migrated the project files to a new directory, then got confused between both locations.
Sincere apologies for bothering y’all and again thanks for the quick and very much to-the-point reactions!
