Snap to Object in Schematic Editor?

Hi,
New user here… first post… been searching in the docs, but could not find the answer
In the Schematic Editor, how do I make a wire snap to object ?
Using KiCad 7.0.1 on a Mac (Intel)

thanks,
chris

Do you have this set ? this is from V8.x.x might be a little different on V7.0.1

Thank you for your super-fast response !
and for adding the time to even add a screenshot. It is much appreciated.
So…I don’t have that option from your screenshot. I only have snap to grid under the PCB editor, but not under the Schematic Editor
This is what I see

BUT:
I just realized that when I drag an object, then the wires do stay connected
I have been using move object and that broke the wires
So, I guess snap has been working all the time :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
Beginners mistake: It took me 2 hours to figure this out…
thanks again,
chris

I’d also upgrade to v8 - we build universal binaries so it should work fine (unless your OS is old). We’re approaching the release of v9 too, so v7 will be ‘very old’ soon.

Update at least to 7.0.11, which is very stable.
7.0.1 is not a good choice.

For best usability, the grid for the Schematic should be kept to 50 mil. or maybe 25 mil. sometimes.
Pins for symbols, in Kicad libraries, are always drawn so they will be on a 50 100 mil grid intersection, so “snap to grid” also means “snap to pin/object” when the grid is set to 100 mil.

According to KLC, it’s even 100 mil. But 50 mil grid works very well for me when drawing schematics.

thank you all for your great tips
I was not aware I wasn’t using the latest version… I must have clicked a wrong link
Can I upgrade from inside the product? I did not find it.
I’m on a Mac and I downloaded kicad-unified-universal-8.0.7.dmg but if I try to install it, it seems it will be a separate install. Would I lose my work then?
My apologies for those basic questions,
chris

@chriV

Open Kicad, go to Help, and you will find this link https://www.kicad.org/

Click on downloads.

The new version should replace the old version.

No, but remember to agree to install the latest (recommended) Kicad Libraries.

The only things you lose on the install are your personal libraries from the symbol and footprint library lists. These need to be re-installed.
