KiCad 8.0.2

DRC correctly flags a warning “Isolated copper fill Zone[GND] on F.Cu and B.Cu”
I don’t want that little copper sliver either.
So, why is the isolated fill there?

Because this is a rough and mean world and not all wishes get fulfilled.
And especially (most probably) because you allowed this behaviour.
Select the GND zone → doubleclick the GND zone → copper zone properties dialog opens → look at the bottom right part of that dialog. There is a setting “remove islands”, you may change that setting to your liking.
Super, now so easy when I know how to fix it.
I was looking for a setting in “Board Setup” but didn’t have imagination enough to look in the actual object instance.
Thank you!
