If I start a track erroneously on the Top-Layer and want to change the active drawing layer “on the fly” to Bottom WITHOUT exiting the drawing function (and without a via) - is there a shortcut ?
PgUp/PgDn does not work, it switches back to the layer I started with as soon as I continue drawing segments.
Do you want to change the already started track?
If I understood right this could be as a new feature / improvement, you should propose at the developers channel.
It is not possible to changing an already started track as far as I know.
If you have started the track erroneously, press ESC once to cancel that. This will only cancel the track, not exit the drawing function. (If you have fixed tracks already, you may need to press ctrl-Z a few times to undo them.) Then press v to switch layer.
Jan-Ake: thats what I do today and its mostly okay.
Concerning new feature: it would certainly be nice if PgUp/PgDn could handle this but I doubt it fits into the normal use with double-sided PCBs and vias. As a hobbyist I use only one side without vias and I guess that I am part of a minority here…
You might not be in a minority. But the devs definitely aim kicad at the professional users. (At least this was the answer by wayne last time he was asked)
Thats Ok to me, I just use what I need. And KiCad5 is sufficient for my purposes.
Of course I am always aiming for more comfort but basically I am astonished how many people stick to expensive/licensed SW when something like KiCad5 is available.
Comfort and UX (user experience) improvement is up to us, raising issues and proposing features to help the programmers to improve KiCad or even coding this features.
